Skin benefits of using Sunflower Oil

Sunflower oil is an oil of vegetable origin that is obtained from the seeds of the sunflower plant. This oil helps to smooth the skin and strengthen the skin barrier.

Is sunflower oil good for the skin?

Sunflower oil is good for dry skin, sensitive skin, combination skin, oily skin, and mature skin.

  • For dry skin: sunflower oil helps provide moisture and allows skin to retain water.
  • For sensitive skin: sunflower oil provides gentle moisture, protection, and a soothing feel.
  • For combination skin: sunflower oil helps both provide moisture and balance oils in the areas that need it.
  • For oily skin: while it may seem counterintuitive to use an oil on oily skin, sunflower is non-comedogenic and doesn’t clog pores and helps to balance natural oils.
  • For mature skin: sunflower oil adds hydration and minimizes the look of fine lines and wrinkles, as well as protecting against future damage.

Sunflower oil contains several compounds that have benefits for the skin, including:

  • Oleic acid
  • Vitamin E
  • Sesamol
  • Linoleic acid

Sunflower oil skin benefits

The main element of this oil is the linoleic acid, a form of omega 6. The function of omega 6 is to hydrate, protect and repair the skin. In addition, linoleic acid helps protect the face from bacteria and germs.

Sunflower oil also contains oleic acid, a form of omega 9. This omega is recommended for people with acne because it eliminates bacteria linked to this condition.

The vitamin E in sunflower oil is an antioxidant that helps prevent premature aging and wrinkles, keeping the skin young and fresh.

Apart from keeping the skin hydrated and wrinkle-free, the benefits of sunflower oil for the skin include:

Leaves pores unclogged: sunflower oil is highly absorbent and non-comedogenic (comedogenic rating is 0). This means it won't clog pores and is suitable for various skin types including acne-prone, dry, normal and oily.

Offers sun protection: antioxidants like vitamin E help protect your skin from wrinkles and the negative effects of sun exposure.

Helps heal wounds: sunflower oil has been shown to help wounds heal faster, although more research is needed to explore this effect.

Can I put sunflower oil on my face?

Yes, you can generally use it in its pure form, as a cleanser or moisturizer. To use the oil as a cleanser, rub a few drops between your fingers, then smooth over the entire face. Wipe it clean and follow with a normal cleaner.

You can also use it to remove makeup. You just have to put a few drops on a cotton ball and remove makeup from your face.

Because it is light in texture and is absorbed very easily into the skin, it is ideal for use under the eyes to provide that delicate area with all the hydration it needs. You can leave this overnight for better results.
